Hi everyone, Happy December 1st. Christmas is coming ...and I love it...all of it. Its icy cold here in Stockholm, but no snow yet ....it won't be long. The ever encroacing darkness means that by mid afternoon a thousand twinkle lights and candles adorn every windowsill in the city and it is lovely. A whole wardrobe of colourful winter knits with intricate fairisle patterns, fur collars and astonishing hats, shiny boots and beautiful winter coats explodes onto the streets and you understand that when you live in a cold climate - you can find a way to be stylish. The winter colours of the landscape are reflected everywhere, in the clothes, the decorations, everything in the shops - lots of soft greys and silver and crystal make the sparkling frost and icy waters around us seem to be part of everyday life.
Our next door neighbour has the most extraordinary tree that I couldn't resist taking a photo of it. The apples don't seem to fall and now that they have a sugar coating sprinkled on them by Jack Frost, they look even more delicious.
Anyway, I know I have been a bit quiet over here last week, but have been sewing like crazy to finish my christmas project for this year. Its not quite ready yet, but watch this space....... Meanwhile, I like to put a few decorations up to ignite the christmas spirit. First out of the box is always our Russian Father Frost. He is so cheerful and jolly and reminds us of our Moscow years and christmases past.
Next out was my christmas project from last year. This was a pattern from Lisa at 'Primitive Gatherings' where they have a great selection of wool projects and especially candle mats. It was the first time I had worked with wool and it was so easy as there is no need to needle turn the applique. I was so thrilled with the result and the message is especially important for us, as our merry band of three are studying and working far and wide in the world and christmas is a time for us all to be together.
check out all their goodies at www.primitivegatherings.us Hope all your christmas shopping and baking and decorating is going well...... see you in a few days for some more christmas suggestions to make your home a christmassy one. Ruby x
