Winter solstice embroidered project bag

Winter solstice embroidered project bag

If you are a maker, you probably have multiple projects going on and having bags like this are wonderful to keep everything together. It is pretty thing to take out and about with you if you are travelling or holidaying and want to take a little handwork with you. It is also a lovely gift for someone, either as a kit or made and customised for them.

Festival of Quilts and a new quilt design

Festival of Quilts and a new quilt design

I decided to start with a new quilt pattern and this time it was easy to decide what to do...it's been on my list for quite a while.   'Shoreham' is going to be a really pretty, fun project with a lovely seaside feel and it all stems from this photograph.

The Nutcracker Christmas Tree Skirt Pattern

The Nutcracker Christmas Tree Skirt Pattern

It has been a bizarre week!  Despite the unusual heatwave that has been with us for quite a while, I found myself rummaging around in the garage, lugging boxes of Christmas stuff into the house, putting up the tree and decorating it...taking photos and then putting it all away again - even Basil the cat thought I had lost the plot.  However, it was totally worth it because now I can bring you my new pattern....a Christmas tree skirt.

Not only would this make a very special gift, but you can make it entirely your own with more or less embroidery and you can use the machine or do hand work to complete the pattern.   There is a free tutorial on tutorials page if you would like some help with making one.

Now that they are all finished, I think they look so lovely all together.  What a great idea for a playroom or a family room - something for everyone I hope.

Two new embroidery patterns

Two new embroidery patterns

Meanwhile, I have two new patterns up in the Etsy shop.  They are part of a series of 4 'hashtag' patterns and I hope you will like them.   I love this modern way of organising things in the digital world and hashtags seem to be so much part of life now that I decided to use them for a collection of patterns which reflect different emotions.  #Remember and #Explore are the first two patterns.

Quick Shop Update!

Quick Shop Update!

Just interrupting the usual sewing chit chat, to say that there are some pretty new things in the shop this week to tempt you into Spring thoughts.

First up, 'On the Garden Fence' Kits are now available.  They come in Ruby's very own lovely little boxes and there is everything you need in there except, the cushion pad, of course.  Even the wool for the tassels is in there!.  The pattern is for a standard 16" cushion pad and is fun to do, with some fabric weaving and some simple embroidery.

Faberge, Mosaic Eggs and Fabric Bundles

Faberge, Mosaic Eggs and Fabric Bundles

I thought it might be a rather nice idea to follow in Carl Faberge's footsteps and each Easter, create an egg quilt block design that perhaps one day might turn into an epic quilt. Meanwhile, the patterns can be used for smaller, quicker projects that hail the arrival of Spring.......I am not sure it is quite up to Carl Faberge's standards, but it is fun and cheerful and will herald the arrival of Spring in just the same way as his eggs once did, long ago and far away.

The Elves Stockings

The Elves Stockings

When I was a little girl, my father's work sometimes took him to London. He would travel by train from Yorkshire and on the way home he often brought a small gift for me. He told me that there was a magic barrel situated in Kings Cross Station and he would put in his hand in to see if there was something for me, if I had been good enough.
